SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos wrapped up day two at the Southwest Regional Tournament hosted by San Diego State Friday as Palina Dubavets moved onto the quarterfinals.
Amanda Atanasson was able to defeat Alexis Rae Valenzuela of Cal State Fullerton by a score of 6-4, 6-4, but was unable to get the job done in the round of 16 against Laura Gulbe of Pepperdine. Gulbe took the mtach by a 6-0, 6-0 score.
Dubavets had a strong round of 32 as she defeated Camille Deleon of Cal State Fullerton in three sets. The final score was 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(2). She went onto the round of 16 to defeat Jean Runglerdkriangkari also in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
Dubavets is the only Gaucho still alive in the singles tournament.
Stephanie Yamada fell in her match to Cindy Nguyen of Hawaii. The final score was 6-2, 6-3.
Kyla Jarrar also had a tough day, falling to Zoe Katz of USC 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, Natalie Da Silveira and her partner Kyla Jarrar fell to Taylor LeFridge and Mazy Watrous of UC Irvine in the round of 32 by a score of 8-3.
Two other Gaucho doubles pairs were able to advance in the tournament as Dubavets and Stefani Stojic defeated Camilia Wesbrooks and Kinga Gartner by a score of 8-4, and Adler and her partner Atanasson defeated Annie Wierda and Danielle Feneridis by a score of 8-2. Both Gaucho pairs will play on Saturday in the round of 16.
