SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- The No. 65 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (10-7) fell to No. 67 Long Beach State (13-4) on Saturday by a final score of 4-3.
This was the Gauchos' first loss in five matches, first against a Big West opponent, and UCSB's sixth loss by a 4-3 score this season.
Long Beach State jumped out to the 1-0 lead as Ebba Unden and her partner Alex Jones took down Amanda Atanasson and Lou Adler on court three, and Maeva Razakasoa and Julie Gerard defeated Melissa Baker and Stephanie Yamada 6-2.
UCSB responded in singles as Jaimee Gilbertson defeated Laura Eales 7-6, 6-2 on court four. Stefani Stojic defeated Gerard 6-1, 7-5 on court three and Palina Dubavets defeated Unden 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 on court two to give the Gauchos the 3-1 lead.
However, LBSU didn't give up. LBSU's Hayley Thompson defeated Natalie Da Silveira 6-4, 6-4 on court five, and Georgie Sanders defeated the Gauchos' Baker 6-4, 7-5 to tie up the match.
Lou Adler was involved in a three set match on court one against the No. 60 Razakasoa. However, the Gaucho was unable to come through and lost 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, and LBSU took the 4-3 win.
The Gauchos will look to rebound against UC Riverside Sunday morning at 10AM at the Rob Gym Courts.
