SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.- Saturday afternoon the UCSB Women's Tennis team won its final Big West matchup, defeating rival Cal Poly on the road 6-1.
With this win the Gauchos earn their fourth straight and improve to 14-7 overall, finishing the conference season with a dominant record of 7-1.
Santa Barbara started off the match in the doubles and played near perfect, only dropping one game in all three matches.
The sophomore team of Lou Adler and Amanda Atanasson was the first off the courts with a 6-0 win on court three. The Gauchos sealed the doubles point with a 6-1 win on court two from the duo of junior Melissa Baker and freshman Stephanie Yamada. The No. 21 team of sophomore Palina Dubavets and junior Stefani Stojic was halted with a 5-0 lead on court one after the Gauchos clinch.
Santa Barbara continued its momentum into the singles round losing just two sets over all six matches.
Adler was the first to finish for the Gauchos and put her team up 2-0 overall with a win on court one. The sophomore defeated her Mustang opponent dropping just two games in a straight sweep of 6-1, 6-1.
Stojic added another point to Santa Barbara's score with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court three. Her doubles partner, Dubavets, sealed the 4-0 overall win for the Gauchos winning 6-3, 6-1 on court two.
Junior Jamiee Gilbertson helped add to her team's success with a 6-4, 6-1 win of her own on court four. Atanasson added the final win of the day for the Gauchos on court five with a straight set outing of 6-2, 6-2.
The Mustangs avoided a full sweep winning the last matchup on court six to get on the board. The Gauchos left San Luis Obispo with a 6-1 win and will look for their fifth straight win tomorrow morning, wrapping up the dual match season at Santa Clara University.
The match is set to start at 11am in Santa Clara, CA.
