46th-Ranked Fresno State Tops No. 69 UCSB, 7-0

FRESNO, Calif. - The 46th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team blanked 69th-ranked UC Santa Barbara 7-0 on Saturday in Fresno. The loss drops the Gauchos to 0-2 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 1-1.

The day began with Fresno State sweeping all three doubles matches Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter ranked No. 4 in the country, quickly put away Santa Barbara's Andrea Pintar and Charlotte Scatliffe 8-4. Melanie Gloria and Vanessa Heroux followed with an 8-3 victory. In No. 3 doubles, the Gauchos Leslie Damion and Kristen Wilson led Tinesta Rowe and Magdalena Tokarska 7-3. But the Bulldog duo battled back to score six straight points, winning 9-7.

In singles, Gloria swept Chelsea Glynn at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Glynn , who normally plays No. 2 for the Gauchos was substituting for Marielle Gruenig. Winterhalter trailed Pintar 4-2 in the first set of their match, but came back to win 6-4, 6-1.

UCSB continues its lengthy season-opening road trip next weekend. The Gauchos will play at San Jose State on Friday, Feb. 3, and at Santa Clara on Saturday, Feb. 4. Santa Barbara will complete its five-game road run on Saturday, Feb. 11, when it travels to Cal State Fullerton.

The Gauchos will not play their first home match until they host UC Riverside on Sunday, Feb. 19.
