Fullerton, Calif. -
The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team rebounded from a season opening defeat at 56th ranked Sacramento State with a convincing 6-1 Big West conference opening victory over Cal State Fullerton this past Friday.
For the second straight contest the Gauchos swept all three doubles matches with ease. Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga started the route winning 8-1 at No. 2. Charlotte Scatliffe and Marta Simic followed with an 8-4 win at No. 1 and Tova Hausman and Brittany Kausen completed the sweep with a win at No. 3, 8-4.
The Gauchos were equally effective in singles play taking 5 out of 6 matches. Scatliffe dominated Erin Weisner at the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-0. "Her serve was on and her forehand was big, but most impressive was her focus throughout the entire match," said head coach Pete Kirkwood.
The Gauchos home opener is this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. as they welcome the University of Texas San Antonio. The following day the Gauchos take on 34th ranked UC Irvine at Irvine starting at 1:00 p.m.
