Gauchos Top East Tennessee State for Third Consecutive Win, 5-2

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Marielle Gruenig swept her No. 1 singles match and teamed with Chelsea Glynn to win at No. 2 doubles, leading UC Santa Barbara to its third straight win, 5-2 over visiting East Tennessee State on Thursday.

Gruenig defeated Masha Ilina 6-0, 7-6 and then teamed with Glynn to defeat Ilina and Sandie Knight, 8-2. Glynn also won at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 over Olya Batsula.

The Gauchos also won at No. 4 singles and No. 5 singles. At No. 4, Charlotte Scatliffe edged Tara Byrne 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 and at No. 5, it was Leslie Damion topping Sylwia Ziolkowska 7-5, 6-4. The Buccaneers won at No. 3 singles and No. 6 singles.

The win was UCSB's third in a row. The Gauchos, who improved 10-5, are slated to host San Francisco at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2006, weather permitting.
