RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team won the fourth time in its last five matches with a 6-1 decision over Big West opponent UC Riverside.
The Gauchos took a 1-0 lead in the match against the Highlanders when they swept the doubles point. Michelle Murphy and Sofia Novak recorded an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles over Riverside's Erynne Oki and Roxanne Plata. UCSB also won with Jill Damion and Natalia Lozano at No. 2 doubles, and Asagi Onaga and Bryanna Ojeda at No. 3.
Santa Barbara also won five of six singles matches. Damion won at No. 2, defeating Donna McCullough by a 6-1, 6-0 score. In addition, Novak defeated Nadia Sakahorn at No. 3, 6-7, 6-3 (10-4), Lozano won at No. 4 over Angelique Corpuz, 6-2, 6-2; Onaga defeated Plata by a 6-0, 6-2 count, and Ojeda blasted Yasman Sakhakorn, 6-0, 6-2.
The win gives UCSB a 13-5 overall record and a 4-4 mark in Big West play.
The Gauchos are scheduled to host St. Mary's on Tuesday, April 7 at 1:30 p.m. on the Robertson Gymnasium Courts. It will be the team's final home match of the season.
