UCSB's Finale vs. St. Mary's Rained Out

April 7, 2009

UC Santa Barbara, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team's match against St. Mary's was rained out today. However, the Gauchos did honor lone senior Noelle Hirneise in a pre-match ceremony.

After dodging rain drops and roll drying courts all season the Gauchos were finally done in by the rain today. Our match with St Mary's was canceled.

The day started with the Gauchos honoring our lone senior Noelle Hirneise in a pre match ceremony. It was Noelle's last home match for the Gauchos.

We decided to play singles first in an attempt to get the match in. Everybody completed their first set with St Mary's winning 5 out of the 6 sets. The Gales went on to close out the match at No. 6 6-4-6-0. Natalia Lozano was the lone first set winner for the Gauchos winning 6-2. She dropped her second set 6-0

The Gauchos were fighting back in all the other matches when the rains came. Michelle Murphy was even at No. 1 Jill Damion up 4-1 in the second set, Sofia Novak was up 3-2, Bryanna Ojeda was up 3-1.

The Gauchos will be back in action Thursday at 10:00 AM for a match against Washington State in Pullman Washington. Friday we will play E. Washington. Right now it looks like both of those matches will be played indoors.
