PULLMAN, Wash. - UC Santa Barbara flew to Spokane, Wash., on Thursday and then made the 120 mile drive to Pullman, Wash., to take on Idaho in a match at Washington State. The Gauchos arrived late for the scheduled 7:00 p.m. contest and then lost a 4-1 decision to the Vandals.
Freshman Tova Hausman gave UCSB its only point of the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lauren Shrubb at No. 4 singles. Freshman Crina Bjornstrom lost a three-set match to Mriel Tinnirello, but the other two singles matches that were completed were both Vandal sweeps.
Idaho also won two of three doubles contests. UCSB's duo of Hausman and Brittany Kausen at No. 3 did win, but Charlotte Scatliffe and Marta Simic lost a tough 9-7 decision at No. 1 as did Asagi Onaga and Bjornstrom at No. 2.
The Gauchos, now 9-8, return to action on Friday when they play Eastern Washington in another match at Washington State.
