UC Santa Barbara vs. University of San Francisco
at the UCSB Rob Gym Tennis Courts
The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team is riding a three match winning-streak and owns a 5-2 home record this season. In its last three matches, the Gauchos have topped Fresno Pacific, San Jose State and Cal State Northridge, improving their overall record to 7-3 on the season (2-3 in Big West). After Northridge's match, the UCSB women will come home for two against San Francisco and UAB.
Freshman Sofia Novak has been lighting it up in singles competition this season, posting a 9-1 dual match record. Playing primarily at the No. 3 position, Novak has knocked off Big West opponents Maria Malec (Cal Poly), Olivia Marshall (SJSU) and Sandra Kukla (CSUN). Her only loss of the season came at the hands of UC Irvine's Courtacy Byron. Since head coach Pete Kirkwood has moved his doubles teams around in the last two matches, the freshman standout is 2-0 paired with Michelle Murphy and getting better everyday.
San Francisco Treat
The University of San Francisco women's tennis team will stroll into Santa Barbara with an impressive 5-2 record on the season. In their path, the Dons have defeated Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara and Big West's UC Davis. Yet, the Dons still have some work to do against Southern Utah today before they travel down the coast to take on the Gauchos on Sunday.
