Gauchos Torching Opponents
The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team has torched six of its last seven opponents, improving its overall record to 10-4 on the season. In that span, the Gauchos have knocked off three Big West foes. On Feb. 28, the UCSB women swept San Jose State, 7-0, and three days later they took apart Cal State Northridge, 5-2. In their latest match, the Gauchos rolled over Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 15, 7-0. At home, UCSB is an astonishing 8-2 at home and have not lost here since Feb. 22 to UC Irvine. Now, the Gauchos will need to keep their focus at home as they take on two Ivy League teams in Dartmouth and Harvard.

Dartmouth
Darmouth rests at 4-3 on the season, but is currently riding a four match winning streak. Since Feb. 25, the Big Green has taken down University of Massachusetts, Quinnipiac University and most recently, Temple. The Ivy League school bolsters a top doubles team in the nation in Molly Scott and Mary Winingham. The pair is currently 6-1 on the season, only falling to No. 42 Wake Forest's top team, 8-5. The Big Green will take on Cal Poly before they travel south to meet with Santa Barbara on Sunday.

Harvard
Another one of Ivy League's elite has yet to shine on the tennis courts, tallying a 4-6 record on the season. On the road, Harvard is a lowly 2-4, dropping matches to Florida International, Cornell and Dartmouth. Crimson will make their first and only trip out to the west coast, preparing for San Diego State, Santa Clara and Cal State Northridge after clashing with Santa Barbara on Monday.

Gauchos on Fire
Bryanna Ojeda is one of the few Gauchos that has been lighting it up as of late. In her last seven matches she has tallied a 5-1 singles record. However, coach Kirkwood recently moved Ojeda up one slot where she registered her first victory at No. 5. In doubles, she gets better, registering a perfect 7-0 record playing with Asagi Onaga and Ratchaya Chaichanachaicharn. In the season so far, Ojeda has racked up a 9-2 dual match record. The only Gaucho to outperform the native from Bakersfield is Sofia Novak with an outstanding 11-2 dual match record. Playing exclusively at the No. 3 slot in singles, Novak has topped the charts with a 6-1 singles record in her last seven chances. In doubles, she has moved into the No. 2 slot playing with Michelle Murphy. Since the switch, the pair has registered a 5-2 doubles record helping the Gauchos take the ever-so-important doubles point.

--- In its on-going effort to draw awareness to breast cancer and to promote its research, the UCSB Athletics Department will sponsor "Pink Week" at three of its athletics events on Mar. 28, 2009.

Three UCSB intercollegiate events, scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 28, have been designated "Pink Week Games." The women's tennis match, slated for 11:00 a.m. on the Robertson Gymnasium Courts, a softball doubleheader scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. on Campus Diamond, and a 12:00 p.m. women's water polo match at Campus Pool will all be part of the effort.
