SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team has added four new recruits, two from California and two international players, head coach Pete Kirkwood announced Tuesday. One of the additions is rated as a four star recruit by Tennisrecruiting.net.
Sophia Novak, a native of San Dimas and a senior at Glendora High School, is the highly touted four star recruit. The other California native is Michelle Murphy from Irvine. Murphy played her freshman year at Michigan State and will transfer to UCSB in the fall.
Both players are expected to have an immediate impact for next year.
"Sophia is a very aggresive left handed player who will excel in doubles and has the potential to play very high in singles," said head coach Pete Kirkwood. "Michelle should be an immediate impact player."
Ratchya Jean, a native of Thailand is a former No. 1 player in the 14's, 16's and 18's in her country. Jean is expected to compete for the No. 1 or No. 2 spot.
Rounding out the class is Natalia Lozano, a native of Spain who graduated from I.E.S. Lepoldo Cano school. Garnered a ranking of #79 in Spain in the Women's open. Lozano is also expected to compete for the No. 1 and No. 2 slots.
