SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
The first UCSB Classic will be hosted by the Gaucho women's tennis program on Friday-Sunday, Oct. 8-10 at three different locations on campus.
"Hosting this tournament is a great opportunity for our program and for the teams that are coming in," said UCSB head coach Pete Kirkwood of the event that will open his team's competition season. "We want to make this an overall good experience for the players and the coaches and it will also be nice for us to play at home during the fall season."
The tournament is sanctioned by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and features players from UCSB, Pepperdine, Arizona, BYU, Cal Poly, Denver and Eastern Washington. There are three flights in the tournament and all will be played simultaneously on UCSB's Robertson Gymnasium Courts, Recreation Center Courts and Harder Stadium Courts.
The tournament will kickoff with first round doubles matches at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning. Each player will play one match on Friday, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. Saturday's play begins with doubles at 9:00 a.m. and Sunday's events start with 8:00 a.m. doubles. BYU will participate on Friday and Saturday only.
Admission to the tournament is free at all three campus locations.
