Gauchos Show Improvement at ITA West Regional

San Diego Calif - UC Santa Barbara women's tennis competed at the ITA West Regional this past weekend in San Diego, notching multiple victories in singles and doubles matches over the course of the four-day event.

Freshman Kiersten Meehan was a bright spot for the Gauchos in singles, defeating Tara Panu of Pepperdine 6-0, 6-2 in her opening match of the tournament before falling to Susan McRann of Arizona in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Natalia Lazano rebounded from an opening-round loss by picking up two wins in consolation matches. Lozano defeated Cristala Andrews of USC 6-2,6-4 and Melissa Valenzuela of Loyola Marymount 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles, the tandem of Lozano and Jordan Dockendorf got off to a fast start with an 8-3 win over Kristina Smith and Miranda Young of UC Irvine, but could not overcome Anamika Bhargava and Marie Zalameda of Pepperdine in the round of 16.

Next up for the Gauchos is the Cal State Northridge Classic Nov. 5-7 in Northridge.
