Northridge, Calif. - UCSB women's tennis performed well at the Cal State Northridge Classic this weekend fighting their way to the finals in three divisions before falling short in all three championship matches.
The doubles tandem of Erica Cano and Casey Reede navigated their way into the final of the B flight by winning 8-6 yesterday against a strong duo from LMU. Unfortunately, the long weekend caught up to Erica and Casey as they were dispatched 8-0 in the final.
In singles, Erica Cano had a very impressive 6-4, 6-3 win over University of Montana's Whitney Paluch in the Semifinals of the B flight before losing in the final 7-5, 6-1 to Susan McRann of Arizona.
Casey Reede also had an incredible run to the final of C flight defeating Julian Mannix of Cal State Bakersfield 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinal. Mannix had eliminated Reede's teammate Samantha Chou in the quarterfinal to setup their semifinal match. In the final Reede was defeated by Lorraine Cheung of Cal Sate Northridge 6-4, 6-2.
The Gauchos will conclude their fall season next weekend when they travel north to play in the Cal Poly Invitational. The event takes place Nov. 19-21. The tournament consists of LMU, USF, Cal Poly and UCSB.
