UCSB Will Send Seven Women to NCAA West Preliminaries This Weekend

INDIANAPOLIS  –  The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants in the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championship Competition.

The Preliminary Championship Competitions will be held May 24-26th.  The East region will be held at the North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. and the West region at Texas in Austin, Texas. The qualifiers out of these regions will compete in the NCAA Championships held June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

NCAA Heptathlon Invited Athletes

SANTA BARBARA--Seven women and nine men from UCSB qualified to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary round in Austin, Texas. 

Barbara Nwaba will be competing in both the heptathlon where she is seeded as the number two seed in the NCAA (5,986) which she scored at the Sam Adams Multi Events. She will also be competing in the 100m hurdles (13.59) which she ran at the Conference Championship, which broke her own school record she set in 2010. 

Justine Diaz's lifetime best 800m time of 2:06.09 she ran at the Cal/Nevada Championships will be the sixth seed in heat one. Andrea Jacobs's lifetime best in the steeplechase (10:24.10) is 11th seeded time in heat one. Sophomore Danielle Moreno's 10k time of 35:25.67 was fast enough to rank among the top 48 list of 10k runners in the nation. 

Irene Kujore will highlight the women's field events, participating in both the discus and shot put events. Kujore's farthest throw this season a 49-7.5 in the shot put and 163-11.75 in the discus. Veronica Gines will be competing in the long jump with her lifetime best mark of 19-3.
