Gauchos Open Indoor Season at Bronco Invite

NAMPA, Idaho - The UCSB women's track and field team started their 2017 Indoor campaign at the Ford Idaho Center Jackson's Track in Nampa, Idaho this past weekend. The Gauchos sent 18 student-athletes to compete in 9 different events. This marked the first return to competition for these athletes since last year's conference championships. 

Highlignts on the track included JR-transfer Morgan Simpson placing in the top 5 of the 400m with a 59.62 effort. Seniors Tori Usgaard and Shannon Trumbull qualified to the final of the 60m Hurdles, where they placed 5th and 6th, both running 8.95 seconds. UC Santa Barbara also competed a 4x400m relay that placed 4th in 4:02.45. 

On the field, SO Jazmin Moss won the Triple Jump in a field of 25, jumping 38-00.75. SO Cassidy Peng joined her in the top 5 with a 37-01.25 effort. The Gauchos had a strong presence in the Long Jump as well, placing 3 in the top 8, thanks to performances from Tori Usgaard (18-03.75), Josephine Graeber (17-11.75), and Jazmin Moss (17-09.75).

Kayla Thayer and Valerie Nestor led the women's throwing squad with performances of 41-00.50 in the Shotput and 50-00.50 in the Weight Throw, respectively. 

The Gauchos will seek to improve upon these performances when they return to Nampa for the Jacksons Invitational on February 3rd. Follow the team on Facebook and Twitter for more team news and updates.
