Oregon Invitational Final Results
Friday Night Recap - Lewis Wins 5,000m at Hayward Field

Yet again in 2006, Kylie McCuen (Sr.) showed why looks could be deceiving. She may appear small, but she can tear up the track with the best of them. This afternoon at the Oregon Invitational at the famous Hayward Field in Eugene, OR, McCuen ran under 24 seconds in the 200m for the first time in 2006, also an unofficial school record.

Racing in one of the final heats of the day, McCuen stepped into her blocks alongside Jenna Harris of Ohio St., ranked 25th in NCAA competition before this weekend, Jasmine Winfield, McCuen's Big West rival from Long Beach State and teammate Elise Geiger (Sr.). With winds that threatend fast times in events 400m and above throughout the weekend, in the 100m and 200m dashes fast wind may void any record setting performances if above +2.0 meters per second.

With the gun going off and a record Oregon Invitational crowd of 6,389 watching the High Performance sections, McCuen blazed down the homestretch to a 3rd place in section 1 of the 200m in 23.79, dipping under her personal best and school record time of 23.88 achieved in 2005. Unfortunately her time also came with a +3.1 m/s wind.

The time qualifies for the NCAA Regional Championships (23.96) and is the Big West Conference leading mark but an offical UCSB School Record must await verification. As important however, McCuen did take out Winfield handidly by .28 seconds who ran 24.07, coincidentally it is McCuen's old wind legal Conference leading mark.

Also running well was teammate Geiger who crossed the line 5th in 24.74, a new personal best. Similar to McCuen's situation she too must await verification for racing to the #3 UCSB All-Time mark at 200m. Her old wind legal mark of 24.85 run in 2005 is currently 5th on the UCSB charts.

Earlier in the afternoon McCuen handed Winfield her first loss to her of the afternoon as she finished 2nd in the Women's 400m dash with a time of 56.42 in Eugene's wind. Winfield was two seconds behind in 58.44. In section 2 of the Women's 400m dash, Kerry Gamble (So.) was 4th in 59.05 and Geiger finished 6th in 1:00.91.
