PASADENA, Calif. - Several UCSB athletes headed down to the Occidental Invite for their last chance to qualify for the championship series. The meet drew in nearly a thousand athletes from all over the nation and several meet records were broken as well.
In the sprints, Sheniece Vargas ran 59.49 in the 400 meter dash. Evan Walker ran 10.96 in the 100 meters for the men for a new personal best time. James Martin ran 48.84 in the 400 meter dash along with Collin Mack who ran 49.97.
Both Cassie Brooker and Callie Mulgannon ran personal bests in the 800 meters. Brooker ran 2:11.02 and Mulgannon ran 2:13.12. On the men's side, Greg Dotson III ran 1:52.93, Rusty Parker ran 1:53.44 , Tyler Brady ran 1:53.86 and Austin Goodheart ran 1:56.01.
In the jumps, Helena Montin jumped 5'4.25" for the women. Max Villalba jumped 6'10.25" for the men which becomes his new personal best mark and Mitchell Haag jumped 6'4". John Walsh jumped 21'10.75" in the long jump and Arthur Dyson's best mark was at 21'3.5". Dyson also competed in the triple jump where he jumped 43'9.75".
Next weekend qualifying athletes for the Big West Conference Championships will head down to Irvine May 13-14.
