Track and Field Season Opener Set For Saturday

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The UCSB Track and Field team will open the outdoor season on Saturday, Feb. 21 with the second annual Gaucho Round-Up. The meet will be held at Pauley Track on the UCSB campus, and will be followed by the annual kick-off Crab Feed.
The teams at this year's meet will be UCSB, Pepperdine, Claremont and Westmont. Last year the Gauchos posted a team victory by winning 26 of 36 events with several good individual efforts.
Some key returnees on this year's squad include Danielle Domenichelli - an All-American in the 5000m, Scott Smith - a Regional qualifier in the 1500m, Jane Doolittle and Christina Nowak - both Regional qualifiers in the high jump, and Jacob Maus - a Regional qualifier in the high jump who now competes in the decathlon.
The running events begin at noon with the 4x100 meter relay, and are scheduled to be completed at 2:35. The hammer throws will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the rest of the field events starting between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30, and they will continue to be staged throughout the duration of the meet.
