SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Despite being set against tough competition in the 5,000m run, Amanda Moreno had a stellar performance at the Stanford Invitational last weekend to earn her second straight Big West Athlete of the Week of the Week Honor. Her time of 16:16:53 was two seconds better than second place and is currently the fastest time in the Big West.
"I went out with a group of girls that were going around the pace I wanted but they were a little slow so there were a couple laps that were off-pace but after that it was easy. It just took me a some time to settle in," comments Moreno, the Senior from Escalon, Calif.
Besides adding more mileage, Moreno has also been incorporating more speed work to her training regimen. With her added mileage and speed, Moreno has been continually improving with each race and is hopeful of her chances of making the first round of the NCAA Championships in May.
"I'm excited about Nationals this year and my goal is to be All-American," says Moreno. And with her training squared away and her eyes focused on the prize, Moreno is well on track to reaching her goal this season.
