AZUSA, Calif. -- Throughout the past several days, UCSB athletes have been competing in the California Invitational Decathlons and Heptathlons as well as the Mt. SAC relays and Bryan Clay Invitational held at Azusa Pacific University, April 13-15.

Yesterday, Senior Maureen Ajoku finished 10th in her section of the heptathlon with a total of 4,875 points to tally a new personal best and also bettered her previous score of 4,865 at the Westmont Collegiate Classic in March. "I felt that I did pretty good on the first day but I didn't do as well as I wanted to on the second day," said Ajoku. "The javelin could have been better as well as the long jump but I want to focus on the javelin because that is where the points are."

Ajoku posted personal-bests in the shot put with a mark of 37'11.25" in the shot put to better her previous mark by three feet. Her next heptathlon meet will be in three weeks at the Big West Multi's on May 6-7 in Irvine, Calif.

Josh Codding also competed in the men's decathlon but did not finish due to his back injury. Junior Barbara Nwaba competed unattached and scored 5,006 points despite fouling in the shot put.

More updates will be available after the completion of the Bryan Clay Invitational this afternoon.
