DES MOINES, Iowa - UC Santa Barbara's Jane Doolittle finished sixth in the high jump and Barbara Nwaba was 12th in the heptathlon at the United States Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday.
Doolittle, the Gauchos' record holder in the event, finished fourth at the NCAA Championships two weeks ago earning All-American honors. On Saturday her jump of 6' 1/2" was good for sixth at the U.S. Championship. The high jump was won by Chaunte Lowe who set a new American record with a leap of 6' 8 3/4".
Nwaba, also an All-American at the NCAA Championships, totaled 5,485 points in the heptathlon, finishing more than 100 points ahead of the 13th-place finisher. On Saturday, she tied for 10th in the long jump at 18' 7", finished fifth in the javelin at 123' 11", and was 12th in the 800 meters at 2:22.99. Nwaba's best event was the shot put. On Friday, she was fifth in that even with a heave of 40' 2".
In Friday's competition, Gaucho Julian DeRubira was 18th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:02.56.
On Thursday, UCSB's Danielle Domeenichelli was 17th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 34:29.27 and Ryan Martin finished 27th in the preliminary heat of the 800 meters.
