Keith Baker Named UCSB Track and Field Throws Coach
Sept. 14, 2007
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara head track and field coach Pete Dolan announced Friday that former University of Alabama team captain Keith Baker will take the helm as the school's throws coach. Baker will fill the position that opened when John Dagata left the program in August to take on a similar role at Iowa State.
The Gauchos receive Baker after he spent last year as the Crimson Tide's graduate assistant where he helped coach throws, jumps and pole vault along with other administrative duties.
"I am excited about the energy Keith will bring to the Gauchos," Dolan said. "He has a great vision of track and field as a team sport. Keith is also bringing a work ethic which will be much needed to keep our program at the top of the Big West."
As an athlete from 2003-2006, Baker's work ethic helped him become the Alabama school record holder in the heptathlon. A National qualifier, Baker ranks third on the Alabama outdoor list in the decathlon. Before competing as a member of the Crimson Tide, Baker was a junior college All-American and team captain at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore. In addition to track, Baker also played basketball for the Titans.
Baker graduated from Alabama in 2006 with a B.S. in human environmental studies with a minor in business management.
