All-Big West Freshman Team
In her first season of action, Kara recorded 254 kills which placed her third on the team and she was a member of the All-Big West Freshman Team ... She led the team with 22 aces and appeared in all but four of UCSB's 111 sets ... Her 2.37 kills per set were third on the team ... Averaged 2.81 kills per set and 2.73 digs per set during conference play ... She tallied 284 digs, which ranked her fourth on the Gauchos as did her 2.65 dig per set average ... Had nine double-doubles ... Had 16 kills and 14 digs in UCSB's five-set win at Cal Poly on Oct. 9 ... Kara had four games with at least 15 kills and had an attack percentage of .343 against Pacific on Oct 15 ... She finished the year third on the team with 293.5 points and second on the team with 284 digs ... Had 31 total blocks (four solo).
In her junior and senior years at Quartz Hill High, Kara led the Rebels to consecutive undefeated Golden League seasons...As a senior she was named Golden League Player of the Year and First Team All-CIF Southern Section...Also served as the team's captain...As a junior was also a First Team All-CIF Southern Section pick as well as First Team All-Golden League and was named the Best Outside Hitter in the Golden League...Averaged 5.6 kills per game with a 51.4 hitting percentage and a 60.8 kill percentage...Helped team to CIF quarterfinals as a senior and semi-finals as a junior...That was the furthest the school had gone in the state tournament...Named the 2009 Quartz Hill High Female Athlete of the Year...Also competed in soccer and was named the 2007 Defensive Player of the Year.
Was a three-year player on Revolution Volleyball, serving as the squad's outside hitter...Helped lead the team to a Gold Division finish and subsequent improved finishes at the Volleyball Festivals in Reno and Phoenix.
Kara Corine Sherrard came into this world on May 8, 1991 to James and Roberta Sherrard...Enjoys skiing, swimming, going to the beach and traveling with her parents...Lists "The Notebook" as her favorite movie... Calls "Twilight" and other mysteries her favorite reads...While she has yet to declare a major at UCSB, Kara would like to be a physical therapist or sports trainer...Has a brother, Michael...Calls her parents her personal heroes.
