LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Gauchos extended their season-worst losing streak on Saturday night, falling to Long Beach St. in straight sets, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-16). UCSB has now lost four straight, and are 0-2 in Big West Conference play. Overall, they are now 7-9.
The Long Beach St. 49ers improved their record to 7-6, 2-0. As a team, they hit a solid .293 and racked up nine blocks. Both figures were significantly higher than the Gauchos recorded, as UCSB managed paltry numbers of a .052 hitting percentage and 4.0 team blocks.
Junior opposite Katey Thompson had a respectable score line for the Gauchos, posting a match-high 13 kills and a team-high two blocks. Junior outside hitter Leah Sully had a season-low six kills, but managed to record her first service ace in eight matches.
UCSB endured one of their most disastrous games on Saturday night, totalling just 13 points and a -.207 hitting percentage in the middle set.
The Gauchos will have to wait until next Saturday, Sep. 29, to get into the conference win column when they travel to San Luis Obispo to take on Cal Poly.
The following week, UCSB returns home to host Pepperdine in their home opener on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
