Nicole Lantagne Welch, Carlene Mitchell Featured on This Week's Talk'n Gauchos

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Newly hired UCSB women's volleyball coach Michelle Lantange Welch women's basketball coach Carlene Mitchell and will be the live guests on Talk'n Gauchos Tuesday night from 6-7pm AM 1290 KZSB and online at UCSBgauchos.com.  The show airs weekly from the Beachside Bar Café.

Mitchell Clements, the voice of the Gaucho women's basketball team, will be the guest host of Talk'n Gauchos as The Voice of the Gauchos, Gerry Fall, travels to Hawaii to announce the UCSB men's game on Thursday night.  Clements will also have a taped interview with men's coach Bob Williams. 

Lantagne Welched, introduced at a press conference last month, is returning to her family's roots with her move from the University of Miami (Fla.) to Santa Barbara.  Her grandfather retired as an Emeritus Professor at UCSB in 1974 and both of her parents graduated from Santa Barbara High School.  Lantange Welch will assume control of a program that was guided by the legendary Kathy Gregory for 38 years. 

During her 12 seasons as the head coach at Miami, Lantange Welch amassed 243 wins and five NCAA Tournament berths, including the last four in a row.  In 2012, she was named Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year and AVCA East Region Coach of the Year for the second time.  Lantange Welch's Hurricanes were 25-6 overall last season and posted 17 ACC wins.

Coach Mitchell's Gaucho women's team is in the thick of the Big West Conference race as the teams come down the home stretch.  UCSB is currently in fourth-place and will take on Cal State Fullerton Thursday and UC Riverside on Saturday and both game can be listened to live on AM 1290 KZSB and online at UCSBgauchos.com.  Clements will call the action for both games. 

The Gaucho women's game against Long Beach State, originally scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 7, has been moved to 3:00 p.m. to better accommodate that night's scheduled doubleheader.  The UCSB men will host Cal State Fullerton at 7:00 p.m. that same night.
