UCSB Returns Home to Host Long Beach State, Cal State Northridge
Last weekend, UCSB split its first road trip of the Big West season with a 3-2 loss at UC Irvine and a 3-1 victory at Cal State Fullerton. The Gauchos made a comeback in the fourth set against the Anteaters to force a fifth set, but Irvine successfully defended their home floor with a 15-8 fifth set score. UCSB bounced back against Cal State Fullerton, as the team put together its best blocking performance of the year with 32 total blocks.

UCSB Make First Road Visits of Big West Season at Irvine, Fullerton
Last weekend, UCSB closed out a five-match home stand with a sweep of UC Riverside and a 3-0 loss to UC Davis. The Gauchos checked in with perhaps their most dominant match of the year so far by limiting the Highlanders to just a .040 hitting percentage, while also registering a team .303 hitting percentage. During Saturday’s match against UC Davis, UCSB held the Aggies to just a .188 kill percentage, but could not capitalize on the offensive side, as they finished with a season-low 23 kills.

UCSB Opens Season at Rams Volleyball Classic
While UCSB has not faced Marquette or Virginia Commonwealth, it did play Colorado State in last year’s Pepperdine Invitational in the second week of the season. The Gauchos fell to the Rams 3-1 that weekend. Colorado State returns three of the four players who reached double kills figures against the Gauchos last year, while UCSB will have Barbeau and Spindt who recorded 12 and 11 kills in that match, respectively.

UCSB Selected Third in Big West Preseason Poll
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Coming off a Big West Championship season, UCSB was selected third in the conference's 2014 preseason poll, as it collected the second-most first place votes. Hawai’i was voted as the preseason favorite with 77 total points and five first place votes, while Long Beach State was second with 68 points and one vote for first. The Gauchos received 63 total points and a pair of first place votes.
