The 2016 season was one to remember for UCSB women's volleyball. Fans and followers of the team were witness to the emergence of a handful of young, extremely talented players who will undoubtedly continue to improve and make key contributions for several years to come. Not only that, but it also saw a significant improvement to the Gaucho record, which was nine games better than in 2015.

The team's culture of success doesn't end with its on-the-court achievements, however. Following the conclusion of UCSB's 2016 fall quarter, six players have been named to the AD Honor Roll, including Sydney Bast, Phoebe Grunt, Annie Hasselmann, Hannah Juley, Megan Rice and Charlie Robinson.

The two criteria for qualifying for the Honor Roll are that the student finish with at least a 3.5 GPA for the individual quarter while maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA overall. Each of the six players finished well above those criteria.

"I am extremely proud of the efforts our student athletes put not only on the court, but in the classroom," head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. "Our program has high goals for both, and the players put in the work necessary to achieve. The education they are getting at UCSB is first class, and they are taking full advantage of that for whatever lies ahead after college."

Boasting a team GPA above a 3.3 over the last two years, the program was given the AVCA Team Academic Award in both 2015 and 2016.
