SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UCSB women's volleyball team began spring practices today in preparation for the fall, with five weeks of practices and three competitions scheduled between April and May.
The first of the three competitions will see the Gauchos travel to Southern California for three matches. UCSB's first match will come against the host Trojans this Friday, Apr. 14. That same day, the Gauchos will also take on UCLA and Cal Baptist.
Each of UCSB's final two scheduled matches will be played at home in Santa Barbara. On Apr. 22, UCSB will participate in its annual alumni match at 1 p.m. Finally, on May 13, the Gauchos will play host to UCLA in the two teams' second matchup of the spring at 10 a.m.
"Spring training is a great time for our players to gain valuable experience and growth in their game," head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. "Most players make their biggest improvements of the year during this training block."
UCSB will be returning 12 players from its 2016 roster that went 17-12 overall to participate in the spring. That includes All-Big West honorees freshman Lindsey Ruddins (First Team, Freshman of the Year), junior Chanel Hoffman (Honorable Mention) and freshman Rowan Ennis (All-Freshman) as well as the conference's leader in digs, Emilia Petrachi (489).
