April 21, 2010

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball head coach Kathy Gregory announced on Tuesday that she had signed a standout prep player to play for her team in the upcoming season.

Jenna Wilson, from Rancho Cucamonga High, recently signed a National Letter of Intent to become a Gaucho and brings with her an array of accomplishments and accolades.

Wilson, an outside hitter/opposite, averaged 3.70 kills per game for Rancho Cucamonga while hitting .344 on the season. She helped lead the team to an undefeated Baseline League finish and was a First Team All-League selection. She also led the team, which made it to the third round of the CIF, in blocks and aces.

Wilson was twice named an All-Region player by the San Bernardino Sun and was her team's MVP as both a junior and senior. Twice she was an All-Inland Valley pick and was a Rancho Cucamonga High Scholar Athlete of the Year nominee.

"Jenna is a gifted athlete and is very versatile, so she can play numerous positions," UCSB head coach Kathy Gregory said. "She has a tremendous upside and while she is very good now, she will only get better with time and training."

Wilson holds the Rancho Cucamonga HS records for most kills in a three-set match with 22 and was a four-year letterwinner. As a freshman she was also an all-league pick. Playing for her club team, Wilson was awarded with an Ayala Tournament MVP award and was an all-tournament pick during the Los Osos tourney. Playing for her Junior Olympics team, Wilson helped lead her squad to the gold medal game.

"I am so thankful to be a part of this team," Wilson said. "It's such an honor to be able to play at such a great school. I am looking forward to what lies ahead with great aspirations. It's totally a dream come true."
