• V is For Vargas
Senior setter Dana Vargas ranks 44th nationally - and fourth in the Big West - with her average of 10.69 assists per game and the 2009 All-American keeps climbing the school's all-time assists charts. With 4,486 career assists, Vargas ranks third all-time at UCSB. She is on pace to surpass 1,000 assists in a season (she's currently at 962) for the third time in her career. In conference play Vargas has been even sharper, handing out 11.24 assists per set, which is tied for third among conference players. The Seal Beach, Calif. native has posted 10 double-doubles this season and is fifth on the Gauchos with a 2.42 digs per set average, which would be a career-high. Her previous best was a 2.15 dig per set average she tallied during her freshman season.

• Char Broiler
Senior outside hitter Charlene DeHoog enjoyed her 14th match this season in which she recorded double-digit kills with a team-high 12 on Saturday vs. Long Beach State. It was the 13th time she's led the team in kills. DeHoog ranks eighth in the Big West with her 3.13 kills per set average and her 2.70 digs per set are second on the team. The senior has a team-high 957 attacks this season, which are already a career high and could place her in the single-season top-10 by season's end. Currently Maria Reyes occupies the No. 10 spot with 1,303 attempts in 1990. DeHoog is averaging 3.05 kills per set and 2.88 digs per set in conference play.

Stacey Schmidt Swings, Swats and Serves
Junior opposite/middle blocker Stacey Schmidt has been the team's best attacker in conference play, averaging 3.26 kills per set, which is sixth in the conference, and a .272 hitting percentage, which ranks her seventh. Overall, Schmidt is averaging 3.04 kills per set, which is 10th in the Big West, while hitting .309, which has her ranked seventh in the conference. On Tuesday night, Schmidt should set career-highs in both kills and attempts as she is currently five kills short of her career-best and 15 attempts shy of her previous best, both of which were set last season. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native has also been a force at the net, leading the Gauchos with her 74 total blocks - an average of 0.82 per set. Schmidt's 21 service aces also lead the team.

• RPI Report
UCSB is No. 53 in the latest NCAA Ratings Percentage Index, down two spots from last week. UCSB is the third-highest Big West team behind Long Beach State at No. 23 and Cal State Fullerton at No. 30. Both of those teams are receiving votes in the AVCA Top-25 poll.

• We Dig It Here
As a team UCSB is averaging 15.88 digs per set, which is third in the conference while the team's 17.36 dig per set average in conference play puts them on top of all the other Big West teams. UCSB has five players averaging over 2.40 digs per set this season.

• A Sherr Thing
Kara Sherrard has been a very pleasant surprise for the Gauchos this season. Taking the place of Leah Sully, who tore her anterior cruciate ligament in the first match of the season, Sherrard is third on the team in kills and digs. The Lancaster, Calif. native has recorded double-digit kills in five of her past seven matches and nine or more digs in seven straight. The redshirt freshman is averaging 2.34 kills per set (2.95 in conference action) and 2.67 digs per set (2.81 in Big West play) while tallying seven double-doubles.

• Dig Dug
Freshman Kelly Heenan has recorded double-digit digs in 14 straight matches and 18 of her past 19 matches overall. The Gauchos' libero is averaging 3.76 digs per set overall this season, which is seventh in the Big West and an impressive 4.36 in conference play, which is sixth in the Big West. The Costa Mesa, Calif. native has led UCSB in digs in 17 of 24 matches this season.

• Win One for the Kipper
Senior Kasey Kipp is enjoying her most effective season over her career. Kipp is hitting at a .303 clip, which ranks her eighth in the Big West. That is easily her best in a season after hitting a previous-high .260 last year. The middle blocker from Newport Beach, Calif. is averaging 1.70 kills per set - fifth on the team - which would also be a career-high and she is tallying a UCSB-high 0.91 blocks per set.

• `Dome Sweet `Dome
After finishing last season 11-1 in the friendly confines of the Thunderdome, UCSB plays four in a row at home and is 3-1 in the `Dome this season. UCSB's all-time record in the Thunderdome is 224-67 (.770).

• The Pursuit of Perfection
Tuesday night's opponent, UC Riverside, has never defeated the Gauchos. UCSB is a perfect 24-0 against the Highlanders. Since joining the Big West in 2001, UCR has only won three sets against the Gauchos over that time.

• Third is Not The Word
The Gauchos have had a tough time in three-set matches this season and in the third set, period. UCSB is just 4-8 in three-set matches and is only 8-16 in the third set this season (see chart, left).

• In Her Sights
UCSB's legendary head coach, Kathy Gregory, is fourth all-time amongst active Division I coaches with 844 victories. Gregory is also one of just five active coaches in women's volleyball history to coach at least 1,200 matches.

• Five Alive
Five UCSB players - DeHoog, Heenan, Chelsey Lowe, Schmidt and Vargas - have seen court time in all of the Gauchos' 90 sets this season.

• LiLo is Not Lindsay Lohan, but Lily Lopez
Junior middle blocker Lily Lopez has been solid this season, averaging 1.67 kills per set (1.72 in Big West action) and 0.69 blocks per set (0.66 in conference matches). Those numbers are close to the career-highs she set a season ago when she had 1.80 kills and 0.80 blocks per set.
