SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara goalkeeper Ruth Milne broke the school's career saves record just two games into her junior season and had three double-digit save performances to claim the initial Big West Women's Water Polo Player of the Week award for 2012.
Milne eclipsed Yvonne Conard's previous school record of 595 saves during a road match against Santa Clara on Friday. Milne finished with 15 saves in the 9-4 win.
The Gauchos posted a 2-3 record in a busy opening week of action and Milne totalled 53 saves over the five matches, giving her 640 for her career. She had her second 15-save effort against San Jose State and finished up the Spartan Invitational with 10 saves against No. 2 Cal.
No. 17 UCSB will open at home with a full slate this weekend. The Gauchos will host Arizona State and Concordia on Friday at noon and 3:30 pm, respectively, at Campus Pool. On Saturday and Sunday, they will play host to the nine-team UCSB Winter Invite.
