UCSB Opens Big West Action Against Long Beach State and UC Irvine

• This Week In Water Polo
No. 15 UC Santa Barbara will open Big West Conference action this weekend at home as it hosts Long Beach State on Saturday and defending league champion UC Irvine on Sunday. Both games are slated for noon starts.

• For The Record
UCSB enters this weekend with a 15-11 overall record. The Gauchos have played their last five games at home and went 4-1 in those contests. UCSB has an overall home record of 8-3 this season.

• Gauchos vs. The Rest of the Big West
The Gauchos have already played five non-conference games this season against its Big West foes. UCSB has gone 3-2 in those pairings. Saturday's game will mark the first meeting with Long Beach State this season and Sunday's will be the second meeting with UC Irvine. The Gauchos and Anteaters previously faced-off on Feb. 26 when UCI captured an 11-5 victory.

• First Line of Defense
Junior goalkeeper Ruth Milne has been a consistently strong presence for the Gauchos. She has tallied 293 saves and has had 15 double-digit save performances. She averages 11.8 saves per game.

• Leading The Pack
UCSB has six players that have tallied 20 or more goals. Molly Hafferkamp and Bryce Winton are tied for the team lead with 28 apiece while Kacey Creek is a close third with 27 goals. Lauren Martin and Shelby Haroldson each have 23 goals and Rachel Nelson has posted 20.

• Happy To Help You
While the Gauchos' scoring is fairly evenly spread, two players have been assisting the majority of the goals. Haroldson leads the squad with a whopping 44 assists while Nelson has dished out 32. Haroldson also has a team-best 42 steals.

• Next Up
UCSB will close out its 2012 home slate next weekend when it hosts Cal State Northridge and Cal Baptist. The Gauchos are slated to play the Matadors at 11:30 a.m. and the Lancers at 6 p.m.
