Up Ahead for the Gauchos
No. 15 UC Santa Barbara (11-7, 0-0) will open its 2013 Big West campaign this weekend as they are slated for a showdown against No. 13 UC Davis (10-7, 0-0). After taking a twelfth place finish in the UCI Invite, UCSB will look to bounce back and add another win on the season.
This weekend's showdown against UC Davis will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. The first meeting occurred during the UCI Invite, which resulted in a 13-7 victory for the Aggies. Freshman Samantha Murphy totaled a hat-trick that game, while senior goalkeeper Ruth Milne produced seven saves.
Catching Up With the Leaders
Leading the Gauchos offense so far this season is freshman Samantha Murphy as she has collected a total of 36 goals. Freshman Jessie Porter is also having a solid season thus far with 26 goals. On the defensive side, All Big West goalkeeper, Ruth Milne has produced 81 saves, giving her an 8.8 saves per game average.
Next Up for UCSB
After their one game home stand, UC Santa Barbara will be on the road once again as they travel to No. 14 Loyola Marymount (9-6) on Thursday, March 14, at 3:30 p.m. The Gauchos will be back home for its mini tournament on Sunday, March 17, which tips off at 8 a.m. against St. Francis. UCSB will then play Marist at 10:30 a.m. and conclude the mini tournament against Iona at 5 p.m.
