SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 15 UC Santa Barbara women's water polo team was unable to defeat No. 9 Hawaii. The Gauchos fell to the Rainbow Wahine 8-7 in their second conference game of the season.
Sophomore Jessie Porter led the Gauchos with two goals. Five more Gauchos each had a goal to contribute to the Gauchos scoring.
The match started out with both teams contributing goals back and forth. The first quarter ended with the Rainbow Wahine holding a 4-3 lead. Hawaii was able to pull ahead after the second quarter, widening their lead 7-4.
The Gauchos outscored the Rainbow Wahine in the third quarter, pulling closer to lessen Hawaii's lead. UCSB once again outscored Hawaii in the fourth quarter, but was unable to overcome Hawaii, ultimately falling to the Wahine 8-7.
UCSB is now 10-12 overall and 1-1 in the Big West Conference. The Gauchos take on No. 6 UC Irvine on Saturday, April 12 at Campus Pool.
