SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – No. 12 UCSB (15-10, 0-3) fell to No. 6 UCI (18-6, 3-0) with a final score of 10-5 this past Saturday at Campus Pool.
Freshman Abbey Grosse had a double to lead the way for the Gauchos' offense.
The game started off slow in the first quarter with both teams testing the waters. UCI, which is currently undefeated in conference, took the early lead with four unanswered goals.
During the second quarter at the 3:32 mark, Grosse put UCSB on the board with a hard earned penalty shot.
In the last minute of the second quarter, the Anteaters were able to sneak a goal, in but the Gauchos responded swiftly by opening up the third quarter with a goal of their own contributed by Trabucco, making the score 5-2.
UCI went on another four-goal run during the third to widen the gap, making it 9-2.
The Gauchos didn't give up, with back-to-back goals in the fourth quarter thanks to Grosse and Synder, making it 9-4.
Although the Anteaters made one more goal, UCSB never stopped pushing making one last goal from Solberg with four seconds left on the clock, ending the game at 10-5.
UCSB will have its last home game of the season next weekend on Saturday, April 15, against No. 12-T Long Beach State. That match will also take part during Senior Night, where six Gaucho seniors will be honored for their contributions over the last several years.
