NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – No. 14 UCSB fell to No. 23 Cal State Northridge 9-8 in both teams' final game of the regular season. Sophomore Kate Pipkin scored a hat trick to lead the Gauchos, while senior Taylor Shore added two goals. Freshman Sarah Snyder and seniors Sophie Trabucco and Jenna Solberg added one goal each.
UCSB got out to a hot start, taking a 5-1 lead in the first quarter. Shore got things started with goals at the 7:16 and 6:05 marks, before Pipkin made it 3-1 several minutes later.
Pipkin and Snyder would add two more Gaucho goals, making it 5-1, before the Matadors went on a 2-0 run to finish the half.
To start the second half, Trabucco would add to UCSB's lead, making it 6-3 with 5:31 left in the third. After a pair of Northridge goals, Solberg put away her sole score of the day to make it 7-5.
The Matadors would answer with three consecutive goals, taking their first game of the day at 8-7 with 6:20 remaining in the game. With 3:30 to go, Pipkin scored her third goal of the game, tying things up at 8-8.
Unfortunately for the Gauchos, CSUN would go on to score the final goal at the 2:47 mark, eventually going on to take a 9-8 victory.
UCSB will take a No. 6 seed into the Big West Tournament next Friday, when it will face No. 3 seed Long Beach State.
