UCSB Drowns No. 14 Hartwick and No. 15 UC Davis in the First Day of UCSD's Triton Invitational

UC Santa Barbara continues the season 4-1 overall after a 9-6 win over Hartwick and a 5-2 win over UC Davis at UCSD's Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.

Hartwick scored first against UCSB, but senior Jen D'Anna quickly retaliated. Bronwen Knox scored four goals in a row for Hartwick spanning the first and second quarters. The score at halftime was tied, 5-5.

The Gauchos took charge in the third quarter. D'Anna hit the back of the cage for the first time in the second half followed by sophomore Lindsay Knott of the Gauchos. The third quarter ended 7-5, Gauchos. D'Anna rattled the cage for her fifth time of the game during the fourth quarter. The last goal of the game was scored by UCSB's Alaina Whitaker, ending the game 9-6 for the Gauchos.

UCSB went on to play UC Davis later in the day. The Gauchos' Aimee Stachowski scored first halfway through the first quarter and UCSB scored again in the second quarter. The score going in to halftime was 2-0 UCSB.

Santa Barbara's Knott rattled the cage in the third quarter followed by the Aggies' first goal of the game by Casie Moa. The Gauchos scored twice more in the second half and the score at the end of play was 5-2 UCSB.

UCSB continues the tournament on Sunday when they face Loyola Marymount. Depending on the outcome of that game the Gaucho will battle for either 3rd place at 3 p.m. or 1st place at 4:10 p.m.
