The Gauchos Place Fourth in Triton Invitational After a Loss to LMU and SDSU

UC SANTA BARBARA - After two days of play in UCSD's Triton Invitational, UC Santa Barbara lands fourth place. Today, the Gauchos lost 7-3 against Loyola Marymount and then 6-5 against San Diego State University.

UCSB and LMU competed to move on to the match for first place. Only one goal was scored in the first quarter and it was by LMU's Katie Hicks. Hicks scored again for the Lions making the score 2-0 at halftime.

The Gauchos went scoreless again in the third quarter, but Alaina Whitaker took charge and scored the first goal for UCSB with 5:24 left in the game. Hicks scored her fourth goal bringing the score to 7-1, LMU. Amy Antonsen scored the final goal ending the game 7-3, Lions.

The Gauchos went on to battle SDSU for third place. The Aztec's Becca Ur scored the first goal of the game. Freshman Amanda Tipton quickly retaliated. SDSU scored at the start of the second quarter. Jen D'Anna hit the back of the cage just before the buzzer leaving the score 3-2 Gauchos at the half.

Stacy Werner of SDSU quickly tied the game up in the second half. ZiZi Clark snuck in one more goal against the Aztecs for a score of 4-3 Gauchos at the end of the third quarter. The Aztecs tied it up again in the fourth, but D'Anna retaliated quickly. SDSU went on to rattle the cage two more times ending the game 6-5, Aztecs. This put SDSU in third place and the Gauchos in fourth for the Triton Invitational.

The Gauchos continue at home next weekend against Stanford at 12 p.m. on Saturday and San Jose State at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
