Gauchos Lose Two Close Games, Finish 16th in UC Irvine Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 12 UC Santa Barbara lost to No. 17 Cal State Northridge (8-7) and lost to No. 16 UC San Diego (8-7) in the final games of the UC Irvine Invitational today at Corona del Mar High School.

Gillian Morgan led the Gauchos with four goals against the Matadors while goalie Jenny Gonzales finished with five saves. Northridge outscored UCSB in the second quarter two to one while the rest of the quarters ended in even scoring. Outscoring the Gauchos in the second quarter led the Matadors to an 8-7 victory.

Later in the day, No. 12 UC Santa Barbara suffered another close loss to No. 16 UC San Diego, 8-7. The Tritons edged the UCSB by one goal for a 15th place finish over the Gauchos. Christie Clark and Clare Buchanan each scored two goals leading UCSB to a 16 place finish. Gonzales ended with two saves.

The Gauchos will hold their first home game of the season this Saturday, March 1st against the No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins, 12:00 pm at the UC Santa Barbara Rec Center.
