USC Drowns Stanford for First Place in 2006 Gaucho Invitational

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Stanford battled USC for first place in the 2006 Gaucho Invitational hosted at UC Santa Barbara February 25-26. Laura Wenger hit the back of the cage two times for the Women of Troy leading USC to a 6-5 victory.

Nancy El-Sakkary began a three goal scoring run for Stanford halfway through the first quarter. USC was quick to answer early in the second quarter with a goal by Erika Figge followed by Kami Craig. Wenger scored the last goal of the first half bringing the score to 4-3 Stanford at the half.

The Trojans tied it up 4-4 with a goal by Moriah Van Norman in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter USC's Brittany Hayes brought the score to 6-4. Stanford's Christina Hewko retaliated quickly, but it was not enough as USC won 6-5.
