SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara senior Gillian Morgan was named Big West Player of the Week it was announced by the conference. The utility player helped lead the Gauchos to a 13th place finish at the UC Irvine Invitational last weekend.
Morgan opened the weekend by scoring a team-leading two goals against top-ranked USC in the tournament opener. She then scored a hat trick against UC Davis in a 10-7 loss to the Aggies.
On Sunday, the Gauchos posted an 11-10 upset over then-ranked No. 13 Long Beach State. During that game, Morgan posted a career-high seven goals, tying the school record for goals in a game.
Following their upset of Long Beach, the Gauchos knocked off then-ranked No. 11 Michigan by way of a 7-4 score. Morgan scored two goals in that victory.
With her 14 goals over the weekend, Morgan moved into the No. 2 spot on the UCSB career scoring list with 160 goals. She currently leads the Gauchos with 38 goals this season.
UCSB will be back in action on March 5 when it hosts its home opener against Cal State Monterey Bay at 4 p.m. at Campus Pool.
