This Week In Water Polo
No. 17 UC Santa Barbara will host a pair of conference games this Friday and Saturday, then travel to face No. 6 San Diego State on Sunday. The Gauchos will take on No. 2 Stanford, Friday, March 7 at 4 pm and will match up against No. 10 San Jose State, Saturday, March 8 at 12 pm. Both games will be held at UC Santa Barbara's Recreational Center Pool. After the two game home stand, the Gauchos will travel to San Diego to take on the Aztecs, Sunday March 9, at 12 pm at the Aztec Aquatic Complex. The Gauchos are currently 0-3 in Mountain Pacific Sports Foundation with a 4-9 overall record.

Scouting the Cardinals
The second-ranked Cardinals hold an overall record of 11-2, and are currently undefeated in MPSF (3-0). Stanford is on a two game winning streak after defeating No. 6 San Diego State, 12-9, and No. 8 Arizona State, 12-6, this past weekend. Junior driver, Lauren Silver leads the Cardinals in scoring, averaging 2.38 goals per game. Her grand total of 31 goals ranks her 4th in MPSF scoring so far this season. Silver was recently named Co-MPSF player of the week after five goal weekend performance. Stanford has a team total of 145 goals, ranking them second in MPSF team scoring.

San Jose State Spartans
The No. 10 ranked Spartans are currently 1-3 in MPSF with an overall record of 8-8. After two close losses versus No. 8 Arizona State (7-5) and against No. 6 San Diego State (9-8), the Spartans are admidst a two game losing streak. With a team total of 153 goals and a team average of 9.56 goals per game, San Jose State is ranked sixth in MPSF scoring. Junior center, Juliet Moss, leads the Spartan squad in scoring with a total of 30 goals so far this season.

The Aztecs
San Diego State University is ranked No. 6 with a 1-1 MPSF record. Junior utility, Anna Gonzales leads the Aztecs in scoring with a total of 36 goals so far this season. Her average of 2.40 goals per game ranks her third of MPSF leading scorers. The Aztecs performed well against No. Stanford last Saturday, March 1, losing by a merethree points (12-9). Sunday, March 2, the Aztecs edged No. 10 San Jose State by one point with a final score of 9-8.

Gauchos Struggle Offensively Against No. 1 UCLA
UCSB suffered a 12-0 defeat against the No. 1 ranked Bruins. Though UCSB put forth a strong defensive effort, holding the Bruins to only two goals in the first and fourth quarters, the Gauchos could not deliver on the offensive end. The Bruin's five goal performance in the third quarter secured their lead 10-0 at the start of the fourth quarter. The Gauchos went scoreless during all four quarters as the Bruins finished with 12 goals.

Standout Performance
Senior goalie, Jenny Gonzales, has been a key component to the Gaucho's defense this season. With seven saves against No. 1 UCLA, Gonzales stand with a grand total of 78 saves this season. Gonzales is ranked 13 in MPSF saves, averaging 6.0 saves per game.

Coming Attractions
Saturday, March 15, the Gauchos will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, to take on No. 5 Hawaii. This away game will be the Rainbow's first home game of the season. The match up will take place at 10 pm at the University of Hawaii's Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
