July 17, 2007

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Jenn Durley, the top assistant at the University of Michigan for the past four seasons, has been named the head women's water polo coach at UC Santa Barbara, it was announced Tuesday by Director of Athletics Gary Cunningham.

"I am very pleased Jenn will be joining us as our head women's water polo coach," said Cunningham. "She was a great player at USC and has served as an assistant under quality head coaches at both USC and the University of Michigan. She has a wealth of playing and assistant coaching experience that have prepared her to assume the reigns of the head coaching position here at UCSB."

At Michigan Durley helped lead the Wolverines to four consecutive Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division titles and the 2005 CWPA Eastern Championship under head coach Matt Anderson. In 2005, Michigan took sixth at the NCAA Division I Women's Water Polo Championships while also hosting the tournament.

While with the Wolverines, Durley assisted in recruiting, conditioning and coaching of the centers and the defense.

"I am very excited to be returning to Southern California," commented Durley. "Coaching at UCSB is a great opportunity for me. I consider this area a second home and am looking forward to coaching in a community I once played in myself. In addition to my valuable experience of working with great coaches and athletics staffs, I also bring my enthusiasm and passion for the game to UCSB."

Prior to coaching at Michigan, Durley spent two seasons as an assistant at her alma mater, USC. During the 2002 and 2003 seasons, the Trojans finished the season ranked third in the nation and placed third in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with a two-year record of 50-8.

Durley was a four-year letterwinner at USC from 1998-2001 and a three-time All-American for the Trojans. Durley also served as team captain during her junior and senior campaigns when USC finished second and third, respectively, in the nation. She was also a member of USC's 1999 National Championship team. That year Durley garnered First Team All-MPSF and Second Team All-American honors.

On the national level, Durley was a member of the United States Women's National "A" and "B" teams in 1999 while captaining the "B" team. She also was a member of the National "A" Team from 2001-02.

A 2001 graduate of USC, she earned her Bachelors of Arts in History. Durley was a member of the National Honors Society and a two-time American Water Polo Coaches Association All-Academic Team honoree. Additionally, she earned a Pac-10 Conference postgraduate scholarship in 2001.

Durley recently became a graduate of the NCAA Women Coaches Academy Dimension II. She was a 2005 graduate of the NCAA Women Coaches Academy.
