UCSB Men and Women take 2nd Place at Santa Clara Bronco Invitational

Sunnyvale, Calif.- Impressive performances by both the Men's and Women's cross-country teams at UC Santa Barbara resulted in a pair of second place finishes in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, California on Saturday. The women ran their second 6K race of the season while the men squared off in an 8K at Baylands Park.

Dani Moreno led the way once again for the women, running a 20:29.3, good for 4th of all Invitational participating runners. Continuing her march to the top of the team was Maxine Goyette, who finished 9th with a 20:51.9 effort. Christine Cooperstein and Sarah Schreck had solid runs of their own, finishing with 21:13.1 and 21:19.7 times respectively. 

The surprising performance of the day was provided by Bryan Guijarro, who finished 1st on the team and 4th overall with a 23:57.6 time. Anthony Ortolan and Bryce Rausa finished in the top twenty as well with 24:20.1 and 24:31.2 runs. 

Taking 1st for the women was Loyola Marymount, who had a pair of runners finish in the top three for the race. For the men, Loyola Marymount also bested the competition, providing an outstanding team performance where all 5 of their runners that qualified were in the top thirty, and 2 in the top five.

The Gauchos return to action this Friday at the Cal State Fullerton Invitational in Fullerton, California. It will be the last race they run before participating in the Big West Championships.
