Santa Barbara, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara Track and Field will be keen to hear that recent alumni Kiely Gode will be returning for the 2018-2019 track and field season, this time as an assistant coach as she will be coordinating the multis and long jumps groups. Gode returns to her alma mater along with recent graduate Jenna Hinkle who will also be joining the coaching staff as an assistant for the distance crew.
Gode returns to UCSB where she was a five time scorer at the Big West Conference Championships, three times in the long jump and two times in the hammer throw. An unconventional double event specialist, she was able to finish as high as fifth in the hammer as a junior and second in the long jump as a senior at the conference meet. After equalling the old long jump school record (5.93m) during the indoor season as a senior, Gode was able to crush the record with mark of 6.16m at the Bryan Clay Invitational. She was able to extend her record even further with a jump of 6.34m at the Cal Poly Dual Meet, a mark that ended up qualifying her to the NCAA West Regional Meet for the first time. She also currently stands at No. 6 all-time for UCSB in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 55.42m.
