STANFORD, Calif. -- Danielle Domenichelli had a top-ten finish to lead the Gaucho cross country squad at last weekend's Stanford Invitational. The team took ninth place overall with 261 points, behind a three-way tie for sixth between Utah, Chico State, and UCI.
Domenichelli placed tenth individually with a time of 21:28, after overcoming a slow start that saw her fade back to around the 20th position. Four freshmen completed the scoring for the Gauchos, with Ari Selix coming in 47th at 22:39, Ashley Beechan in 66th at 23:00, Catherine Murillo in 70th at 23:03, and Serkadis Krohm in 79th at 23:08.
Stanford were the winners of both the men's and women's races. The Cardinal men took the 8,000 meter race with just 38 points, and the women won the 6,000 meter race with 43 points. Scotty Bauhs of Chico State was the individual winner of the men's race, completing the course with a time of 23:45. Laura Olvera of UC Irvine took the women's crown, finishing with a time of 20:42.
Next up for the Gauchos is the NCAA Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. Those races will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18.
