UC Santa Barbara senior Amanda Moreno ran a 16:48 to finish 11th out of 194 runners at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. Moreno's effort led the Gauchos to a 14th-place finish out of 24 teams.
UCSB 368 points to finish two points behind Iowa, the 13th-place team. Villanova, the nation's top-ranked team, won the meet with 64 points. Oregon, which is ranked fifth nationally, finished second with 118 points and Florida State, the No. 2 team, finished third with 129 points.
One other Gaucho, senior Breanne Strenkowski ran a 17:24 over the 5K course to finish in 40th-place. The only other UCSB runner to finish among the top-100 was senior Crystal Reed who clocked a 17:51 to finish 77th.
Andrea Jacobs (18:21, 122nd-place), Ashley Beecnah (18:23/124th-place), Justine Diaz (18:32, 139th-place), Callie Mulgannon (18:58, 164th-place) and Cassie Brooker (19:06, 173rd-place) rounded out the Santa Barbara contingent at the meet.
Lucy Van Dalen of Stony Brook University ran a 16:22 to win the individual title. Van Dalen finished four seconds ahead of Villanova's Sheila Reid and five seconds ahead of Texas El Paso's Risper Kimaiyo.
UCSB returns to action on Oct. 15 when both the men's and women's teams travel to the Northridge Invitational.
