SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Senior cross country runner Danielle Domenichelli was named the women's Co-Big West Athlete of the Week on Wednesday. Domenichelli finished in 29th place at last weekend's NCAA Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
Domenichelli ran in the Blue Race, which was one of the two randomly seeded women's races that took place. She completed the 6,000 meter course in 20 minutes, 58 seconds.
She shares this week's award with Kim Conley of UC Davis, who competed in the women's White Race. Conley took 25th place with a time of 20 minutes, 59 seconds. The men's award went to Chad Hall of UC Riverside, who took 20th place in the men's 8,000 meter Blue Race.
This is the second weekly honor for Domenichelli this season. She was named the Big West's Athlete of the Week on Sept. 5, after winning the UCSB Lagoon Open with a time of 17:51 over 5,000 meters.
The Gauchos will send a small contingent of athletes to this weekend's Fullerton Titan Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 25. The team will be back in full gear for the Big West Conference Championships, which take place on Nov. 1 in Riverside.
